SmartDrive Announces Partnership with Driving Services - December 2006
California based SmartDrive Systems and their UK partner, Cheshire based Driving Services UK Limited announce their collaboration to introduce the SmartDrive fleet vehicle safety improvement system to the UK market.
The innovative system, designed and developed by SmartDrive Systems, provides a cost-effective solution for reducing unsafe driving acts and collisions in commercial fleets. Comprised of an in-vehicle video unit and a web-based data management service, the SmartDrive system supports long-term driver behaviour modification and provides actionable data that allows fleet managers to more effectively train and protect their drivers and their vehicles. This system has proven to dramatically reduce collision frequency within commercial fleets, with reductions of 50% or more, feasible when properly implemented and managed.
“The synergies between the two companies were apparent to me immediately” commented Driving Services UK Limited Managing Director, Doug Jenkins. “The UK market is ready for SmartDrive’s driver safety system. UK executives with fleet-related responsibilities are becoming increasingly demanding and sophisticated in their approaches to fleet-related risk management. Smart Drive’s system will clearly give the company that is dedicated to road safety, the upper hand in reducing crash frequency within their corporate fleet. From a Duty of Care perspective, I think this system merits evaluation by every fleet in the UK”.
Scott Raske, SmartDrive Managing Director for EMEA is delighted to be working with Driving Services UK Limited. “Driving Services has always been on the leading edge of utilising web-based technology to deliver their services to the client. Their expertise in accident investigation is widely acknowledged in the UK market, as is their reputation for fleet –related risk management. They play an integral role in helping SmartDrive provide a localised and relevant incident review service to UK based fleets and we are delighted to be partnering with them.”
The SmartDrive in-vehicle unit is mounted behind the rear view mirror and consists of a two way video camera which records what the driver sees on the road and what takes place in the cab of the vehicle. The SmartDrive unit is triggered by an internal motion sensor or excessive speed and records erratic driving behaviour, collisions and speeding events. The video “event” is then wirelessly downloaded to a secure website, where it can be reviewed and any feedback and re-training arranged for the driver. The SmartDrive web-based service provides robust and flexible reporting capability for driver benchmarking, collision investigation and bespoke driver training.
