Traffic Light Awareness Schemes

What is it?
This scheme provides education for drivers who fail to stop at a red traffic light in the Merseyside area. Driving Services UK Ltd provides the Traffic Light Awareness Scheme on behalf of the Merseyside Police Authority.
The aim of the Workshop is to educate drivers by raising awareness of the risks and consequences of jumping a red light and encourages drivers to reflect on, and indeed change, their current behaviour attitude.
Its objective is to prevent future re-occurrence which, in turn, will help to reduce death and serious injury on the roads. If a driver re-offends within three years of attending, they will not be offered a further Workshop.
Workshop Content
The Workshop is a classroom based theory session of 2˝ hours duration, facilitated by professional trainers. During the Workshop, attendees will be encouraged to discuss what caused them to commit an offence at the red light, the consequences of doing so and how they plan to avoid re-offending. Attendees are encouraged to discuss, dispute or debate any beliefs they hold regarding their traffic offence. There is no driving required to complete the Workshop successfully.
The Workshop will:
- Dispel the myths about jumping a red light
- Discuss crash statistics at traffic light junctions
- Explore the delegate’s attitude towards traffic lights and risk taking
- Look at the types of crashes that occur at traffic light junctions
- Look at the anatomy of a crash at a set of traffic lights
- Look at the consequences of a crash
- Encourage discussion amongst the delegate group
If the Workshop is completed successfully the attendee’s file will be referred back to the Police for no further action.
