Norfolk Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to a number of questions we often get asked about our Courses. We strongly recommend that you read our Terms and Conditions in detail before booking your place.

JOINING THE SCHEME

  • How long is the Course and what does it cover?
The Course takes around 6 hours to complete. You will be required to take an active part in both individual activities and an inter-active group discussion relating to your driving offence. You will be required to drive during the Course.
  • I have special needs, can these be accommodated?
Yes, please contact our Police Customer Care team on 0845 345 9623 to discuss your needs on an individual basis.

MAKING A BOOKING

  • How do I book a Course place?
Call our Police Customer Care team on 0845 345 9623. You cannot pay on the day.
  • Once booked, can I change the date of my Course?
Yes, but you may incur rescheduling fees – see  clause 6, 14 & 15 on ‘Rescheduling’ in our Terms and Conditions.

ATTENDING A COURSE

  • What do I need to take with me on the day?
Please take your full joining instructions as well as your Photo ID and a full driving licence. If you have a new style licence, you must bring BOTH parts. Failure to produce your licence will prevent you from taking part on the Course as we are legally required to see your licence before taking you on public roads.  Training materials and refreshments will be provided.  Courses starting in the morning will be offered lunch. You cannot pay on the day.
  • Who’s car will I be driving and what will I be doing?
You will be driving one of our training vehicles alongside one of our trainers.  During the on-road training session you will receive training and advice on hazard recognition, speed limit identification and speed control.
  • Is there a test?
No, there is no test to take or pass or fail.  All we ask is that you keep an open mind and participate fully.
  • Where can I find travel directions to the training venue?
Directions to the venue are included in your joining instructions which will be sent to you after you have booked and paid for your Course.
  • How do I register on the day?
We recommend that you arrive around 15 mins before the start of Course so that you can register and show proof of identity.
  • Can I park at the training venue?
Yes, but parking spaces may be limited. As vehicles will be provided for training, you can also use any local public car parking or public transport facilities.
  • Other commitments have arisen on the day of my Course, what should I do?
If you have booked a place and you do not attend for any reason (except ‘exceptional circumstances’), we recommend that you book another Course immediately, subject to availability and payment of the full Course fee again. If you don’t rebook, your file will be returned to the Police and the offer of the Scheme withdrawn. See clause 6, 14 & 15 on ‘Non-attendance’ in our Terms and Conditions.
  • What should I do if either myself, or a dependant, is unwell on the day of my Course?
We understand that illness, some medical conditions or bereavement are unavoidable. That’s why we acknowledge these are examples of ‘exceptional circumstances’. You can rebook but you must provide appropriate documentary evidence and pay any rescheduling fees. See clause 14 on ‘Non-attendance’ in our Terms and Conditions.
  • What happens if I arrive late?
You must arrive in good time or you may be refused entry in which case you must rebook immediately, subject to availability and rescheduling fees. See  clause 6, 14 & 15 on ‘Non-completion’ in our Terms and Conditions.

AFTER A COURSE

  • Do I need to inform the Police that I have completed the Course?
No, Driving Services will advise the Police directly that you have successfully completed a Course.
  • If I offend again, can I attend a Course again?
You cannot attend a Course again within 3 years of the date of your original offence
